The German Federal Cultural Foundation is looking for an Artistic Director or a team of Artistic Directors for its new initiative in the field of choreography. The first Tanztriennale (Dance Triennial) will take place in 2026.
The Tanztriennale expands the previous concept of an international industry event in the field of dance and strives in particular to bring together a variety of artistic scenes – from classical ballet to contemporary aesthetics and community-based dance styles, such as ballroom and hip hop, as well as hybrid forms with nouveau cirque, performance and digital technologies.
The first edition in 2026 will be realised in close cooperation with a host city. Until May 31, German cities are eligible to apply if they have a diverse dance scene, a repertoire ensemble and ensure reliable support for dance. The Board of Trustees of the German Federal Cultural Foundation will likely select the city in July 2024.
As Artistic Director(s), you will develop an artistic concept for the Tanztriennale and curate a programme of new productions, guest performances, professional exchange and educational formats. The selection of the Artistic Director(s) shall be made with the help of an international Search Committee.

Die Kulturstiftung des Bundes sucht eine Künstlerische Leitung für ihre neue Initiative im Bereich Choreographie: Die erste Ausgabe der Tanztriennale wird 2026 stattfinden.
Die Tanztriennale erweitert das bisherige Konzept einer internationalen Fachveranstaltung für Tanz und wird sich aktuellen künstlerischen Arbeiten und Trends im Bereich der Choreografie widmen. Die Tanztriennale soll verschiedene künstlerische Szenen zusammenbringen, angefangen beim klassischen Ballett über zeitgenössische Ästhetiken bis hin zu community-basierten Tanzstilen wie Ballroom oder Hip-Hop und den Schnittstellen zum Nouveau Cirque, zur Performance-Kunst und digitalen Inszenierungen.
Die erste Ausgabe im Jahr 2026 wird in enger Kooperation mit einer gastgebenden Stadt realisiert. Bis zum 31.05.2024 können sich deutsche Städte bewerben, die über eine vielfältige Tanzszene und ein Repertoire-Ensemble verfügen, eine verlässliche Tanzförderung gewährleisten sowie eigene finanzielle und personelle Ressourcen bereitstellen können. Die Auswahl des Austragungsorts der ersten Tanztriennale trifft der Stiftungsrat der Kulturstiftung des Bundes voraussichtlich im Juli 2024.
Die Künstlerische Leitung soll für die Tanztriennale eine künstlerische Gesamtkonzeption entwickeln und ein Programm aus Neuproduktionen, Gastspielen, Fachaustausch und Vermittlungsformaten kuratieren. Die Auswahl erfolgt mit Hilfe einer international besetzten Findungskommission.
